Manchester United are intensifying their efforts to make Viktor Gyökeres their next major signing this summer.

Ineos has been quick to strengthen Ruben Amorim’s squad this transfer window. Although the regular transfer window officially opens on June 16th following the Club World Cup window from June 1st to 10th, Manchester United have already secured Matheus Cunha.

The Brazilian arrives with Premier League experience and could soon be joined by Bryan Mbeumo, who United are still negotiating to sign from Brentford.

Additionally, United are planning a move for Viktor Gyökeres from Sporting CP, but the deal has hit complications. Sporting have increased their asking price, leaving Gyökeres frustrated and reportedly threatening to strike if the club doesn’t sell him for the previously agreed £59 million.

Sporting’s president has dismissed these claims, stating no agreement was ever made and warning that threats won’t influence the club’s stance.

Manchester United are expected to formally submit an offer for Gyökeres to Sporting CP soon.

The likelihood of United signing Gyökeres this summer is currently around 50-50, with factors both supporting and hindering the transfer.

Despite the ongoing uncertainty, United appear committed to pursuing the deal according to reports from Portugal, and they have already engaged in talks with the Swedish striker’s agent.

According to Record, Manchester United will make an official proposal to Sporting CP in the coming hours.

However, Sporting’s president Frederico Varandas has suggested that they may only consider offers around €80 million (approximately £68 million), a figure that may exceed what Ineos is willing to pay for the 26-year-old forward.

United could potentially structure a deal including bonuses and payment installments, with a proposal around £60 million plus £8 million in add-ons, which might satisfy all parties involved.
