Diego Leon is set to move to England on July 1 to officially join Manchester United, according to reports.
Earlier this month, Matheus Cunha became United’s first summer signing after the club activated a £62.5 million release clause in his Wolverhampton Wanderers contract.
Currently, United are negotiating with Brentford over a transfer fee for Bryan Mbeumo. However, Brentford are holding out for a high price, so Mbeumo’s future remains uncertain despite his willingness to join Old Trafford, expressed earlier in June.
Meanwhile, another South American prospect is expected to arrive at United soon.
As reported by VSports Team via Sport Witness, Leon will travel on July 1 to link up with the Manchester club.
During the January transfer window, it was widely reported that United reached an agreement with Cerro Porteño to sign their highly-rated full-back for around £6 million. Leon also completed medical exams with the Premier League club at that time.
The Paraguay U20 international has attracted European interest due to his athleticism and versatility. He combines the stamina to make attacking runs into the final third with the calmness to build play from the back.
When United agreed to sign Leon, Ruben Amorim was urgently seeking a new wing-back. However, as Leon was only 17 then, the transfer could not be finalized until the end of the season.
Having turned 18 in April, Leon is now ready to begin his new chapter in England, reportedly on a contract lasting until June 2030.
It’s likely Leon will take part in senior team pre-season matches, though whether Amorim views him as a dependable option for the upcoming season is still unclear.
