Liverpool star Mohamed Salah continued his impressive season by scoring the winning goal against Brighton on Saturday. Trailing initially, Liverpool turned the game around through goals by Cody Gakpo and Salah, putting them back on top of the Premier League standings.
Salah has now notched seven league goals and five assists this season for the Merseyside club. While he’s in outstanding form, his future at Liverpool remains uncertain due to his contract situation, which ends at the season’s close. Liverpool is reportedly eyeing replacements, including Brentford’s Bryan Mbuemo and Bournemouth’s Antoine Semenyo.
Though Jamie Carragher believes Salah will renew his contract, Salah’s recent post on social media hints otherwise. After the Brighton match, he wrote: “Top of the table is where this club belongs. Nothing less.
All teams win matches, but there’s only 1 champion in the end. That’s what we want. Thank you for your support last night. No matter what happens, I will never forget what scoring at Anfield feels like.”
Some interpret Salah’s words “no matter what happens” as a sign that a new contract may not be close. Losing him on a free transfer would be a significant setback for Liverpool, who should make every effort to keep him.
Under manager Arne Slot, Salah has been in some of the best form of his career, making him difficult to replace in terms of goals and assists.
