Manchester United are showing interest in signing one of Europe’s hottest strikers this summer.
The Red Devils have had a disappointing Premier League season so far, sitting 14th in the table with just 33 points from 27 matches.
Struggling for a quality striker up front, manager Rúben Amorim appears eager to find a solid solution ahead of next season.
On his YouTube channel, journalist Fabrizio Romano revealed that Viktor Gyökeres is set to leave Sporting CP this summer for a fee below his £84 million release clause. Sporting are reportedly willing to accept a transfer fee between £55 million and £63 million for the Swedish forward.
Romano also mentioned that both Manchester United and Amorim hold Gyökeres in high regard. The striker shares a strong connection with the manager, but the move will ultimately depend on United’s budget and their qualification for the Champions League next season. The club may need to sell players to fund new arrivals.
Romano commented: “There have been many reports about Man Utd’s interest, and Amorim clearly values Gyökeres.
He loves him, and Gyökeres feels the same. However, like with Osimhen, the deal depends on the budget and European football status. Amorim has been clear: they need to sell players to buy new ones.”
Gyökeres joined Sporting CP from Coventry City in 2023 and had an impressive debut season, scoring 43 goals and providing 15 assists in 50 appearances across all competitions.
Despite his success, top European clubs were hesitant to meet his high release clause, but the situation might change this summer. Gyökeres has continued his strong form with 37 goals and nine assists from 39 appearances this season, making him a highly sought-after talent.
