“Out of Man United’s Control” — Fabrizio Romano Discloses the True Cause of Bryan Mbeumo Transfer Hold-Up

Manchester United’s pursuit of Bryan Mbeumo remains active, but supporters eager for an official announcement may have to wait a bit longer — and it’s not due to a lack of effort from Old Trafford.

Transfer insider Fabrizio Romano has revealed that the delay in securing the Brentford winger is largely down to circumstances beyond United’s control. The club hopes to make Mbeumo their third summer signing, following the arrivals of Matheus Cunha and emerging talent Diego Leon. However, Brentford have already turned down two offers — one worth £55 million and another with £7.5 million in add-ons.

Contrary to the belief that United are stalling, Romano clarified in his *GiveMeSport* newsletter that Brentford are the ones slowing progress. He explained:

“United are still pushing for the deal, but the delays are mostly coming from Brentford. They’ve been busy managing other player negotiations and reshaping their squad.”

Brentford are currently juggling several deals, including fending off a new bid from Nottingham Forest for Yoane Wissa, completing Christian Nørgaard’s move to Arsenal, and preparing to unveil former Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson, who’s leaving Ajax.

These distractions have limited Brentford’s engagement with United over Mbeumo’s future.

Despite the stall, Romano insists the deal is still “active” and that Manchester United are optimistic it will be completed before their pre-season tour of the U.S. later this month.

Frustration isn’t limited to fans — reports suggest Mbeumo himself is growing restless with the drawn-out process. He’s expected to report back to Brentford training next week, and his return could help accelerate negotiations.

Seen as a central figure in Rúben Amorim’s revamped attack, Mbeumo is being targeted to join a front three alongside Cunha and possibly Joshua Zirkzee. United are eager to finalize the move before pre-season games begin, giving the squad time to build chemistry ahead of the Premier League opener.

With Amorim keen on having his attacking setup ready early, United are preparing a third and likely final offer. Club insiders believe it could be the breakthrough needed.

Fans will hope that Mbeumo’s return to England helps push the deal over the line and brings one of the Premier League’s most consistent wide players to Old Trafford.
