Manchester United Could Cut £90m by Letting Go of Rashford and Three Others
Manchester United could save close to £90 million in wages by offloading Marcus Rashford and three other top earners during the summer transfer window.
Rashford, who spent the latter part of last season on loan at Aston Villa, may be sold permanently, though a second loan hasn’t been ruled out. The England international earns around £300,000 per week and is under contract until 2028.
According to Football Insider (June 4), financial expert Stefan Borson, formerly of Manchester City, believes United could massively ease their wage bill by also parting with Jadon Sancho, Antony, and Casemiro.
Sancho and Antony were loaned out to Chelsea and Real Betis during the 2024–25 season, while Casemiro featured more frequently under manager Ruben Amorim toward the campaign’s end.
The club’s total wage bill reached £365 million for the 2023–24 season, with Casemiro reportedly taking home £350,000 per week. Trimming salaries from players with limited impact would free up significant funds.
Borson stated:
“If United can remove Rashford, Sancho, Antony, and Casemiro from the wage bill, it could save them between £80m and £90m next season. That’s a massive financial relief.”
He added that these players haven’t contributed enough to justify their salaries, noting Casemiro’s age and declining role. While financially wise, replacing them on the pitch would be a new challenge.
On the transfer front, Football Insider also reports that United are progressing in talks with Brentford over a deal for Bryan Mbeumo. Brentford want £60–65 million, but United have offered £45 million plus £10 million in add-ons. Mbeumo scored 20 goals and provided 9 assists last season.
